High-altitude camping among the ponderosa pines just outside Bryce Canyon National Park. The hoodoos, amphitheaters, and stargazing at 8,000 feet are absolutely otherworldly. Cool summer temps make this a perfect escape from the desert heat.

Pros

Cool and comfortable even in July. Hoodoos at sunrise were jaw-dropping. Darkest skies we've ever camped under.

Cons

Altitude can be a factor — take it easy the first day.
